Become a Sponsor
Children who depend on school meals during the year often miss out on these wholesome meals during the summer months. Your support as a sponsor can help close that gap this summer. In 2021, Florida supported thousands of meal sites to provide meals to children all summer long.
Are you interested in becoming a 2022 Summer BreakSpot program sponsor? If your organization already provides services to the community and has capable staff and has experience in managing a food service program, you may be a good fit for sponsorship.
What is Summer BreakSpot?
Summer BreakSpot, a federally funded program established to fill the summer hunger gap, allows organizations to serve healthy meals to children in Florida while school is out. Organizations will be managing state funds and will not be responsible for cost of meals or sites managed.
The Summer Food Service Program and the Seamless Summer Option, together known as Summer BreakSpot, operate at schools, nonprofits and other community-based organizations when schools are closed. From May through August 2020, when schools were closed due to COVID-19 and then for the summer, Summer BreakSpot sponsors served 46,533,444 meals at more than 3,726 sites statewide.
Through the Summer BreakSpot Program, organizations can provide nutritious, no-cost meals to children in low-income areas through a variety of programs, such as summer day camps and enrichment programs. Qualified organizations will be reimbursed for program operating and administrative expenses based on the number of eligible meals served. To be eligible, organizations must:
- Provide continuing service to the community.
- Serve meals on a regular schedule to children or provide meals as a part of an organized program for children enrolled at camps.
- Show financial and administrative capability to operate the program.
